Australian standards:
Guidelines for speed humps are set down by
Australian standard AS1428.4, and sets the benchmark for our industry.
In essence it states that for a building required
to be accessible, tactile indicators must be used as a warning for people that
are vision impaired. If the area is used by the public these tactile
indicators must be used to warn people that they are approaching a stairway,
escalator, travelator or a ramp other than a step ramp and kerb ramp. This
standard also caters for where there is an absence of suitable barriers, stating
that tactile ground surface indicators are required in certain instances.
